The veteran team captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, John Obi Mikel, has ended his 10 years stay at the Stamford Bridge (Chelsea football Club) with a window transfer to a Chinese based Tianjin Teda. In a heartfelt message via twitter, the multiple trophy winning midfielder shared gratitude to his former team, team mates, management and his teeming fans worldwide. The Nigerian midfielder has become the latest big name player to join the Chinese super league gold rush. Mikel had a medicals at the port city on Thursday and the Asian football confederation confirmed the deal on Friday morning.
The 29-year old had a very successful decade long adventure at the Bridge with 374 appearances and eleven trophies to include the Champions league, EPL honours, and F.A cup. He had stated in his gratitude message how Chelsea has given him special memories from childhood to become a household name in the team as expressed his delight to be joining the Chinese based side, Tianjin Teda. He will now earn 140,000 pounds weekly making the highest paid Nigerian player at the moment.
