The latest round of the English Premier League saw a number of surprising results, with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United faltering under seemingly ‘smaller’ teams. Even with a Draw against Liverpool Fc, Chelsea now seems to be looking very confident on top of the Standings. It will take only an Arsenal effect this Saturday to see if the already created 9 points gap will either be shrinked, maintained or stretched.

AFCON 2017:Ivory Coast, Another Mighty, Has Fallen

Image result for afcon 2017 imagesGroup C

Surprisingly, this year’s competition has become a center for ‘mighty fallings’. This is just the Group stage and we have seen significantly big teams crash out of the tournament. Indeed, the AFCON is amazingly unpredictable. Sunday saw the exit of the host nation, Gabon after failing to win any match in the tournament. Progressively, Monday received the crash of Algeria (also failed to win any game) before Tuesday followed the trend to swallow the defending Champion and favorite of the competition, Ivory Coast.

Ivory coast lost 0-1 to Morocco in a must win tie. This drew a close to the reigning champions’ title defense with just 2points out of 3games. With Morocco’s triumph over Ivory Coast, they successfully progressed into the quarterfinals behind group leader, DRCongo. DrCongo have been a very interesting surprise in this tournament. Of course, nobody really gave them a chance but against all odds, they topped a group that has Ivory Coast, Morocco and Togo. With a 3-1 win over Togo , they cruise into the quarterfinals with shoulder’s high. Continue reading

Group B update

It’s quite surprising to see how the mighties are fallen in this tournament. After seeing the departure of the Host nation, Gabon, on Sunday, Monday night wasn’t also shy to display the exit of yet another Giant in the African Football. The reigning African Best player, Riyad Mahrez’ struggle wasn’t good enough to save Algeria from the brink of a disappointing exit. Algeria played another 2-2 draw against the group leaders, Senegal to end the campaign. Tunisia, on the other end, white washed Zimbabwe with a 4-2 defeat making them advance to the quarterfinals following Senegal’s lead.

Algeria came into the encounter seeking not short of victory. Islam Slimani stroked in a brace [10’ and 52’] but wasn’t good enough to take them pass the group stage. Successive response from both Pape Kouli Diop[41’] and Moussa Sow [53’] halted their advances.
